Herbal Treatment for Ear Infection

Are you struggling with an ear infection accompanied by severe ear pain? Worry not. This herbal treatment for ear infection is all you need to fix it for good. Read on.

What is an ear infection?

Ear infections happen when your middle ear gets infected by bacteria or viruses, as a result built up fluid in your eustachian tubes. You know, eustachian tubes are those tiny tubes which connect your ears to the back of your throat.

It’s like your ear suddenly decides to start a protest, complete with throbbing pain, muffled sounds, and sometimes even a fever. Let’s face it – it’s not a nice experience at all.

Colds can also cause pain in the ears (a symptom of ear infection). You know, the cold that’s supposed to stay in your nose but somehow manages to creep its way into your ears? Yea. That’s one.

When you catch a cold or have allergies, your Eustachian tubes can get swollen or blocked. When this happens, fluid builds up behind your eardrum and boom – you’ve got a prime environment for germs to throw a party.

Kids (bless their hearts), seem to be ear infection magnets. Their Eustachian tubes are shorter and more horizontal than adults’, making it super easier for stuff to get stuck. Plus, their immune systems are still learning the ropes, so they tend to catch infections more easily.

Let’s not forget swimming, especially in dirty water. This can be a fast ticket to ‘swimmer’s ear’, which is an infection in the outer ear caused by bacteria.

The symptoms? Oh, you’ll know them. Besides the sharp and intense pain that comes out of nowhere, you might feel pressure, hear a ringing sound, or even have trouble hearing things clearly, like you’re underwater. If your sense of balance seems off, that’s simply because your ears are also responsible for maintaining balance.

So, what can we do to heal ear infections using herbs?

Herbal Treatment for Ear Infection

Two herbs can heal an ear infection, and these are the Miracle leaf and the Snake plant.

Miracle Leaf

The miracle leaf plant (kalanchoe pinnata) is a versatile plant that propagates through its leaves. This plant is loaded with lots of medicinal healing properties. It is useful for the treatment of epilepsy, kidney stones, boils, urinary tract infections, candidiasis, hypertension, asthma, stomach ulcers, heartburn, diabetes, feet swelling (edema), among other ailments.

To apply it to your infected ear, take a single leaf, place it over the fire, and roast it. Once the liquid starts oozing out, squeeze it into your infected ear, just a drop should do. Repeat the treatment for about 3 days. Your ear will be healed.

Snake Plant

Also known as sansevieria or mother-in-law’s tongue, this plant is one of those low-maintenance, hard-to-kill plants that practically thrive on neglect. It is a decorative plant that thrives indoors. This is because it doesn’t need much water, survives in low light, and still manages to look sleek and stylish with its tall, sword-like leaves.

Like the Miracle leaf, roast the snake plant over the fire, and wait till the liquid starts to ooze out from the plant. Apply as drops to the affected ear. You will be healed.
